Google Hummingbird SEO Update

Google’s newest addition “Hummingbird” is it’s most affecting change in their algorithm since the release of “Caffeine” three years ago mentions Amit Singhal, a senior vice president for the company.  He confirms that the new update will influence about 90% of all searches through Google and could have major impact on traffic to websites.

In the U.S. Google yields around two out of every three search inquires, which is undoubtedly the majority of all Internet traffic.  Parts of Europe like England and Norway Google manages even larger search volume.  The price in Google ads could also go up with the recent Hummingbird update from those websites that are linked to certain search requests.  Also, Google is expected to make an outstanding $60 billion in revenue this year with search ads and other commercials related to Web content.

Larry Page CEO and fellow co-founder Sergery Brin announced the event in Menlo Park, Calif. in a garage where they started the company 15 years ago.  Google now based in Mountain View, Calif., honors its birthday every year on Sept. 27, which could have something to do with this “Hummingbird” release.

Hummingbird is primarily aimed at giving Google’s search engine a better grasp at understanding concepts instead of mere words, Singhal said.  Which has not yet created pandemonium from other websites, suggesting that the improvements are modest in some ranking results.  Unlike the whirlwind that Caffeine caused because of its approach of weeding out the websites that Google found that the content was unrelated to common search results.  These websites were penalized by banished completely or sent to the back pages from their top page rankings.

The change needed to be done, Singhal said, because people have become so reliant on Google that they now routinely enter lengthy questions into the search box instead of just a few words related to specific topics.

As smartphones remain on the rise and Google’s voice-recognition technology becomes more accepted, people are searching in sentences that mirror a conversation.  This trend is definitely apart of Google’s newest algorithm decision.

Just as Page and Brin set out to do when they started Google in a garage, “we want to keep getting better at helping you make the most of your life,” Singhal said.  Like all new Google updates, WebitMD Inc. chooses to learn and stay current on what these changes mean for our clients.
